Dr. Shamim Ali is a distinguished academic, researcher, and poet with over 30 years of university-level teaching and research experience. Currently serving as Associate Professor in the department of English Linguistics and Literature at Riphah International University, Islamabad. She earned her PhD in English from NUML, specializing in second language acquisition. Her academic achievements are extensive, including a Post-Doctoral Diploma and a Postgraduate Diploma in Futuristic Studies from The Futuristic Institute, Pakistan; an Advanced Diploma in English Linguistics from NUML; and professional certifications from Canada and the USA. These include certificates in Blended Learning Practice, Technology-Enabled Learning, and Learning to Learn Online (Athabasca University), and Transitioning to Teaching Language Online (University of Minnesota).
Dr. Ali is a pioneer in teaching Neurolinguistics at the PhD level and has designed and taught advanced courses in Neurolinguistics, Corpus Linguistics, Pragmatics, Semantics, General and Historical Linguistics, and Museum Linguistics. Her current research focuses on the neurocognitive mechanisms of language switching in bilinguals, utilizing advanced neuroimaging techniques. Additionally, her work in Museum Linguistics examines language and communication within museum spaces, exploring how linguistic choices influence visitor experience, interpretation, education, identity construction, and cultural representation.
She has authored five books, including Prose, Basics of Technical English, ELT, Composite Elastic Course Models, and Roots to Wings. Internationally recognized for her academic contributions, she has presented at conferences in Japan, the UK, Bosnia, Turkey, and Dubai, earning accolades such as the Best Presentation Award at ICALLTM (UK) and multiple Research Excellence Awards from AIOU. She has supervised numerous PhD and MS theses, contributing significantly to academic mentorship. Since 2012, she has served on various national and international Advisory and Editorial boards
She is also a prolific poet, having written 1,100 poems, with seven award-winning pieces featured in anthologies and literary forums. Her poetry reflects themes of identity, resilience, spirituality, and the human condition. Dr. Shamim Ali’s contributions to education, research, and literature make her a dynamic force in contemporary linguistic and literary scholarship.
Riphah International University is a private university in Pakistan, chartered by the Federal Government of Pakistan in 2002. The university was established with the aim of producing professionals with Islamic moral and ethical values.
